southwest Trails

Southwest star trails that is! Stepping into the old west, this image was taken of Sentinal Mesa in Monument Valley.

About this Image

If you looked to the east just before sunrise on May 14th, 2011, you would have seen a spectacular sight rarely seen ... a planetary conjunction of Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and Venus gathered together in the morning sky.  The 4 planets were visible to the naked eye, like sparkling jewels in the early morning sky, a fitting accompaniment to the Sydney Opera House in the foreground (hover your mouse over the following image to see the 4 planets labeled).
